COVID-19 Guidance Updates

NJDOH COVID-19 Public Health Recommendations for Local Health Departments for K-12 Schools - Updated Jan. 12, 2022
 
COVID-19 positive (viral test), symptomatic or asymptomatic 
  • Individuals regardless of vaccination status, who test positive or individuals with COVID-19 symptoms:
    • Stay home for 5 days after the onset of symptoms or if asymptomatic after the positive test (day of symptoms is day 0). If asymptomatic, the day test was performed is day 0.
    • Return to work or school if no symptoms after 5 days and fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medicine.
  • COVID Symptoms 
    • At least two of the following symptoms: fever (measure or subjective), chills, rigors (shivers), myalgia (muscle aches), headache, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, congestion or runny nose; OR  
    • At least one of the following symptoms: fever, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, new olfactory disorder, new taste disorder. 
Close contact of staff or student with COVID-19
  • For determining the timing of close contact to a COVID-19 case: 
    • Individuals would only be considered exposed if they had close contact during the COVID positive person’s isolation (day 1-5).
    • Close contact of COVID positive individual (unvaccinated only): 5 day quarantine–no test out option. 
    • Live-in contact of COVID positive individuals (unvaccinated only): 5 day isolation and 5 day quarantine = 10 day quarantine–no test out option.
