School Mission Statement

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School is dedicated to providing the highest quality educational program with the cornerstones of value-learning, self-worth, and quality performance among students and staff along with a transition for students to productive and responsible participation in society.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary school opened its doors originally in 1916, as Junior School 1, and then reopened as M.L.K. on  March 3, 2010.  The school is a 118,884-square-foot, two-story building with a student enrollment of approximately 840 students in Kindergarten through 5th grades. The school consists of approximately 40 classrooms organized into three distinct classroom wings: one wing each for K and 1, grades 2 and 3, and grades 4 & 5. The school incorporates a visual and performing arts program, and a science and technology program. The school has a cafeteria, an art room, a music room, science labs, two computer labs, a gymnasium and a media center.
