Mentor of the Month

Every day, mentor teachers go above and beyond to connect with their mentees, support them through challenges, share resources and experiences, and encourage them to grow. The Trenton Public School District Human Resources Department celebrates the work of mentor teachers through the Mentor of the Month Spotlight.

October: Kudos to Jhasmany Saavedra, Bilingual Elementary Teacher at Monument Intermediate School, who was recognized as the October Mentor of the Month! Jhasmany was nominated by Veronica Werts, Elementary Teacher at Monument Intermediate School.

“Mr. Saavedra has been more than accommodating with my schedule. Our teaching schedules do not line up for lunch or prep. He has met with me outside of school hours virtually and has been extremely helpful and informative. He is also very calm and kind. I feel confident after every meeting. He is a perfect mentor for any new teacher.” - Veronica Werts

January Mentor of the Month: Anthony Cianciarulo, Instructional Technology Specialist at Dunn Middle School – Nominated by Justin Holliday, Social Studies Teacher at Dunn Middle School

“Anthony was my cooperating teacher during my student teaching, and got a new position inthe school this last June. He trusted me to take over his position and is now mymentor. This shows he has a lotof trust and confidence in me, which makes me feel motivated. As amentor, he has watched me teach, too, and he even spentthe time to help me introducethe FreeForm app to all my classes. This allowedthem to integrate technology intothe classroom and use art to depict historical events. This was also important because it was an issue I struggled with, as technology was not my strongest suit. He also kept trackof my PDP, SGOs, and observations. He looked over all my work before submitting, made sure I was meeting deadlines, and provided me with details about how he did well on his observations. This set me up for success onthese important areas. Oneofthe most important things he also does is meeting me for lunch almost every day. This gives us time to discuss what’s going on in class and solve issues we may have.” - Justin Holliday
